WHAT AFTER 10/+2 ? THE BIG DECISION

Updated: Apr 1, 2020

Today we have a lot of options in front of us. Parents, teachers, friends, relatives, even next-door neighbors, movies can inspire us too to choose the career journey ahead.

We look outside for making a decision and fails to look at the right place, into ourselves. Being confused about where to go, finally, we have a lot of options but no well-informed decision.

Let us begin with a bit from In Alice in Wonderland story. "Alice: "Would do you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?" "That depends a good deal on where you want to go," said the Cat.
"I don't much care where-" said Alice.
Then it doesn't matter which way yo go," said the Cat.

If you are a parent reading this, please realize your child is a unique individual and have his or her ambitions and dreams. We as a parent can't project our choices if we do it, it's just another random shot which may work or may not.

The scary part is if it didn't work for your kid, it will be one of the difficult stages of his life when he starts thinking "This career is not for me"

The key decision should be made for your child by him for him ultimately. "No, he is just a kid, how he can make a good decision? " This is one of the typical replies I hear from most of the well intentioned parents.

Yes, you are right, but still there is systematic and scientific way of doing it considering our kid's strengths and passions.

"Have you ever faced any challenges in chores where your kid made the choice to do it ?" In my experience if they decided by themselves and they found it interesting rarely as a parent we have to follow up something. In their decisions they hold the responsibility and damn sure they will find the shore themselves what ever happens.

The point which I am leading you to is let you be aware of two big facts to consider while choosing a career path for your kids in today's time of cut throat competition.

  1. Career choice should be based on strengths and interests of the child.

  2. The final call should be by them, you can be a guide or similar to football coach, you fill their head until the court, after let them play their game.

As a parent, we are their guiding light.Let's see what we can do from our end.

  1. Contact their teachers and have a personal talk on what are their suggestions based on their observations during the interaction with your kid.

  2. Consult a career guidance professional and do a career test based on their personality traits and abilities.

  3. Do an online personality test which can help you to know more about your kid's desirable career choices, strengths and weaknesses.

  4. Moreover, There is no better person in this world than a parent who can understand their child.Observe them closely leaving all your judgments and talk to them personally about their own plans, passions and dreams

My few website suggestions for online based tests are :

As a footnote let me tell you one more thing. The major influences behind most of the career decisions are what parents suggest, where their friends go, what their favorite close acquaintances do, what movies are they inspired from .etc. Let their career choice be a well informed one. Even though bitter for them right now to go through a career choosing process, in future they will look back and thank you as a responsible parent helping them to make the best choice for them.
