What We Do Wrong In Choosing Careers ?

We all do mistakes in our life.

Some costs money,

Some costs time,

Some costs energy.

Career choice mistakes are emotionally draining and can affect all areas of your life.
Treating life as a whole, career issues adversely affect your wellbeing and happiness.

When I look around, I could point out trends that are leading to poor career decisions.

1. Parental Pressure :

Students choose careers not to disappoint their parents comes at the top according to me.

Especially in the Indian context, this is deeply relevant.

Due to over expectations from parents students are emotionally forced into a decision which they pay a heavy levy in the future.

This even results in students blaming parents for their messed-up career when they realize they are heading in the wrong direction.

The painful truth is that these well-intentioned parents just wanted a bright, safe and promising future for their kids. But if they take a role of decision-maker instead of being a guide it backfires.

As parents, they should accept that their child is another individual with his/her own values, interests, personality and dreams.

2. Peer pressure

Friends are one of the great influencers in the teenage.

It's natural to have an influence of your buddy's opinions, but in career key decisions don't let it overrun your own preferences. They are also well-wishers like parents, perhaps more trusted by you on a lot of occasions.

Know a career is a journey that you take alone, it should suit you, excite you and make your life meaningful.

Practically speaking, after a phase in life, we depart to different directions and being always together with your friends are likely won't be literally possible.

Always keep in your mind. It's your life and you are the one who makes the final choice.

3. Just choosing a career for money.

Money is one of the priorities that keep our lives moving, but it's not everything. I fall into this category when I chose my career in engineering instead of journalism and mass communication when I joined the undergraduate course.

Everything seemed well, but after a semester I started regretting the decision. Courage matters in every decision of life, and I had no courage to go back and correct myself. And the thought of going back haunted me during my studies, even when I entered a safe good-paying job. I wasn't satisfied completely. From the moment I started learning and sharing my thoughts from 2010 through my blog, I felt happier, another not so happy part is that I hadn't carried the momentum from 2010, I would strongly advise you from my experience not to choose a career for only money.

4. Considering only career scope and demand.

The scope is an integral part of career choice. Having no consideration for who you are, your interests and passions will kill the show.

Just imagine, if you are not interested to jump out of bed to do what you do for a living on a daily basis, your performance suffers, it negatively affects your career growth, and it impacts your overall life's happiness and satisfaction. Choose a career in which you won't spend time watching the clock. If you are really interested in what you do, you will be able to overcome any challenges your career throw at you.

5. Deciding to go with the flow.

Like a spoiled teenager, you had no responsibilities, you may be one of them who is too fortunate to have a lot of material pleasures brought to you with no efforts by your parents. These boys and girls are in a mindset that everything is easy and let's go with the flow. Please remember every choice we make has a consequence, either positive or negative. Especially gambling with career choices absolutely has. A life without a plan is a plan to fail.

Don't go with the flow. That's recommended for only dead fish. Choose your career, choose your life and choose to be yourself.

I don't want anyone to repeat my and my friend's mistakes while choosing careers. Introspect your choices carefully and make wise and informed decisions.
